Following the theme of Passing, Quicksand is also a story of biracial Black woman. Rumored to be based on her own life, Quicksand tells the story of a biracial woman who was raised by her Danish mother and her struggle to find her place in society. She is faced with the constant struggle of not fitting into either Black or white spaces, yet finds some refuge in 1920’s Harlem.
